Oregon Construction Craft Laborer's Apprenticeship Program
From the Oregon Construction Craft Laborer Apprenticeship Program Brochure:
“The purpose of the apprenticeship program is to develop a qualified, versatile and safe workforce. A skilled workforce creates profit for the worker and the contractor. Owners of projects expect contractors to produce a quality project at a competitive price. Contractors must have skilled, safe workers to be competitive. Apprenticeship will give you a combination of on-the-job experience and related training to help you become a valued construction team member and a qualified Union Laborer.
The apprenticeship program consists of 4000 hours of on-the-job experience and a minimum of 160 hours related training. Wages begin at 63% of Journey person scale and increase with each 1000 hours of on-the-job training and 90 hours of related training.
The first step in applying for the CCL Apprenticeship Program is an orientation about the Laborers trade. These sessions help give you an understanding of the work of a Laborer and answer questions you may have about the apprenticeship program. Orientations are held as needed in various locations.
The second step is a face-to-face interview. Interviews are usually scheduled about a month after an orientation session. These sessions give us an opportunity to learn more about you. You will have a chance to ask questions about the program.
The final step is a one week pre-construction training class. This is our chance to evaluate your ability to physically perform the work of the trade. It is also a chance for you to see if you have what it takes to make it as a Laborer. These classes are held at our Corvallis training center when there is a need for apprentices.
To apply for the program, you must be at least 18 years of age, have completed the tenth grade or equivalent, and have reliable transportation to get to work and to training. Also, you will be required to take and pass drug tests on a regular basis during work and training.”
