Reptile Extravaganza!
Silvies students from all over the state converged in Bend for a snake and reptile extravaganza! Mr. Jeff from the Reptile Zone did not disappoint with his entertaining presentation of reptiles and snakes. He presented some so small they would fit in the palm of your hand,, to the ever-popular pet, the bearded dragon. The grand finale was a 10 foot long Burmese Python! All the kids got to hold boa constrictors and pet the python. It was a reptile fan’s dream come true!
Farm fun in Eastern Oregon!
On Thursday, May 2, 2024, teachers, Keela and Veronica, along with several parents, took SRCS students to Babby Farms in Caldwell, ID. Babby Farms is a non-profit organization with the mission of providing children, as well as adults with disabilities, the joy of interacting with animals. Most of their animals are hand-raised for this sole purpose. Studies have shown that ALL people benefit from hands-on interactions with animals.
On this trip, SRCS students were able to pet kangaroos, along with a 4 day old baby joey, tortoises, ponies, and an armadillo. Students also saw primates, camels, a black wolf, a yak, and many others. After a sack lunch, students had time to enjoy the playground equipment.

Heisman High School Scholarship! What an Honor.
Congratulations to our own SRCS Senior, Kenna Stratton, for being awarded the Heisman High School Scholarship! We are so proud!
The Heisman Memorial Trophy is annually awarded to the most outstanding college football player in the nation. The Heisman High School Scholarship extends the Heisman prestige to our nation’s most esteemed high school seniors by recognizing and rewarding outstanding scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories not only happen on the field, but in their schools and communities. These remarkable young leaders set the example and make a game-changing difference every day, paving the way to greatness for everyone around them.
To apply, students must be graduating with the class of 2024, have a cumulative weighted high school grade point average of a B (3.0) or better, participate in at least one of the sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee, the Paralympic Games and/or the National Federation of State High School Association and be a leader in his/her school and community.
The Heisman High School Scholarship program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes. By inviting male and female students from schools across the country to share their stories of leadership and impact, the program aims to inspire all students to harness their potential, push their limits, and use their talents not only to advance their own futures, but to improve the communities and world around them.

Ontario SLC happenings!
The Ontario LC students spent the day at the movies on Thursday, January 25, 2024. Sixteen students, one parent, the Skerjanecs, and Ms. Rysdam enjoyed the new movie, “Migration.” Everyone received a small popcorn and a drink of their choice. A fun afternoon.
Salem SLC Happenings!
Silvies students enjoyed some friendly competition at Top Golf! Their mad skills include getting a hole in one, hitting colorful targets, and destroying virtual Angry Bird towers. Sadly, no one managed to hit the lone golf cart out on the range, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.
